This page explains what data Map Warfare accesses on your device — most importantly, your precise location — what it is used for, where it is stored, and what control you have over it. Location data is processed on-device only and is never transmitted to a Map Warfare server.

01

Introduction

Map Warfare is a tactical mapping application developed by Tharven Technologies. This policy describes what data the Android application and the website at mapwarfare.com access on your device, how that data is used, and what control you have over it. Map Warfare does not require an account, does not collect personal identifiers such as email or phone number, and does not transmit your location to any server.

02

Location data

What is collected. Map Warfare accesses precise device location through the Android system (latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, bearing, and accuracy). On devices where the user grants only approximate location, only approximate values are accessed.

Why it is collected.Location data is used to power the operational features the application exists for: live position tracking on the map, breadcrumb (track) recording, Bloodhound GOTO navigation to a selected target, Lock-on-Self map centering, range & bearing measurements relative to your position, and the on-screen GPS readout in the tools panel.

Background and foreground service use. Location data is collected even when the application is closed or not in use, so that breadcrumb recording and active navigation can continue while the device is in your pocket or the screen is off. This is implemented as an Android foreground service of type location. While the service is running, Android displays an ongoing notification titled “Map Warfare — Live Tracking” with a Stop button so you can turn off background tracking at any time without opening the application.

Where it is processed. All location processing happens on your device. Map Warfare does not transmit, upload, sell, or share your location data with Tharven Technologies, with any analytics provider, or with any third party. There is no Map Warfare server that receives your coordinates.

Where it is stored.Recorded breadcrumb tracks, saved locations, drawn shapes, markers, and range & bearing entries are stored only in the application's private storage area on your device. They remain there until you delete them through the in-app interface or uninstall the application. You may export breadcrumb tracks as KML files to a location of your choice; sharing those exported files is entirely at your discretion.

Your control. You may revoke location permission, background location permission, or notification permission at any time from your device's system settings under Apps → Map Warfare → Permissions. Revoking permission disables the features that depend on it; the application will continue to run for all other purposes. Recorded data is not affected by revoking permission and can be cleared from inside the application.

03

Other device permissions

Beyond location, the Android application requests a small set of additional permissions, each used solely for the feature listed:

  • Camera — to attach photos captured at the moment of import to a marker or report. Photos are saved on-device only.
  • Photos / media (read) — to let you pick existing images from your gallery to attach to a marker or report. Selected images stay on the device.
  • Notifications — required by Android 13+ so the app can display the ongoing live-tracking notification described above.
  • Bluetooth (scan / connect) — to connect to optional external GPS receivers for higher precision in field use. No Bluetooth data is transmitted off device.
  • Storage — to read and write offline map tiles, exported KML tracks, and shared screenshots in directories you choose.
  • Network access — to fetch online map tiles from third-party tile providers (such as OpenStreetMap), download earthquake and aircraft feeds, and optionally fetch radio repeater catalogs. These requests carry standard map-tile parameters (zoom, x, y) and do not include your precise device location.
04

Information we do not collect

Map Warfare does not require account creation and does not collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, government identifiers, or contacts. The application does not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or attribution SDKs. There is no telemetry pipeline reporting usage events to Tharven Technologies.

05

Information sharing

Because no personal data and no location data leaves your device, there is nothing for Tharven Technologies to share with third parties. Map tile requests are sent to third-party tile providers (such as OpenStreetMap) only to render the map you are viewing; these requests are subject to those providers' own privacy practices and contain no Map Warfare account information.

06

Data security

Operational data is held in the application's private storage sandbox provided by Android, which isolates it from other applications on the device. Because data does not leave the device, Map Warfare relies on the operating system's on-device encryption (when enabled) and on the access controls you place on the device itself (PIN, biometric, etc.). You should secure the device accordingly when it is used in sensitive contexts.

07

Children's privacy

Map Warfare is designed for professional and adult field use. The application is not directed at children under 13, and Tharven Technologies does not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the application in a way that warrants attention, please contact us using the address below.

08

Policy changes

This privacy policy may be updated as the application evolves. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Map Warfare after a revision is published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes to how device permissions are used will also be reflected in the in-app disclosure shown the next time the affected permission is requested.
